Aurora, CO | 2003
If we're talking about legacies, then one of Akinlana's is definitely memorializing the multicultural history of the cities and states where he creates his beautiful works of art. AURORA ETERNAL is just one of many examples of this. Showing the multicultural heritage of Aurora and the surrounding Colorado area, this 29 ft x 17 ft paneled acrylic painting boasts etched glass mirrors enhanced with sandblasted designs and casted glass sculptures, just one of many times Akinlana has shown his range as an artist through a single installation.
After extensive research, Akinlana chose to represent the adventurous ecological, biological, social and architectural development of Aurora from prehistoric times to the present. The mural portrays several historical local figures like real estate developer Donald Fletcher. The images were chosen to evoke a sense of enthrallment and fun for all ages, so everyone could enjoy learning about the historical expansion of the area. Commissioned by Aurora Art In Public Places, this installation shows how Aurora's history is just as steeped in the diversity of its icons as it is in the innovations of transport they created. This magnificent structure stands in the Aurora Municipal Center.
